Repetro exit - how it works
The thinking behind our Repetro Exit Advisory service above: tax assessment, nationalization structuring and buyer identification.
Brazil's Repetro-Sped regime suspends federal import taxes on E&P equipment. But when a concession ends or a platform is decommissioned, that equipment must exit the regime, and that is usually where value gets destroyed. There are two exit paths, and for equipment a company owns it means nationalizing first:
- Nationalize, then sell (the common case). Pay the suspended taxes ('despacho para consumo'); the sale follows immediately. Spare8's role: line up the buyer in advance so nationalization and sale happen together, minimising the cash impact.
- Transfer within the regime. Only for temporary-admission (leased) assets moving between qualified beneficiaries, with no immediate tax event.
Listings carry the fiscal information that drives the decision: customs status, current beneficiary, authorised use, Repetro exit path and supporting documents. Buyers filter by customs status and see the rest per listing. The exit path is shown as nationalize then sell, transfer in regime (temporary admission), or subject to fiscal analysis. Spare8 assesses viability; it does not guarantee it.
